Saturday 11th July 98
After quite a late night the night before, both John & I where
up about 7:30am.
With the Monster Trucks racing twice on the Saturday it was a busy
day for the drivers & their crew.
Some drivers where up earlier than others ! When Dan Runte
eventually surfaced he was out cleaning & polishing the BIGFOOT truck.
Myself & John got some breakfast before taking a walk around
the fairgrounds. We then stopped off to see how Paublo
& Tina Huffaker where getting on, repairing the Grave Digger
truck. John gave a helping hand.
"I know that if I needed a hand to fix Sudden Impact at an event,
most of these guys when bend over backwards to
help me out. Us Monster Truck drivers are like one big
family, always willing to give each other a helping hand"
Quite a number of John's friends stopped by the trailer during the
weekend to see him, keeping John busy all of the time.
With the racing soon to start, John gets into his fire suit, grabs
his helmet & drives the truck into the infield, along with all the
other Monster Truck drivers. On John's crash helmet, he has Squirrel painted
on it, as that is his nickname.
"The reason my nickname is Squirrel, is for two reasons.
One is that squirrels are good climbers,
like myself & they store & eat nuts, & my friends
all reckon I'm nuts !"
Mike Vaters, John Seasock, Guy Wood & Dan Runte, discuss
the afternoons racing.
With the first Monster Truck racing of saturday underway, the crowd
saw some high flying action, including Kirk Dabney crashing
the Overkill truck. Click here

For John he was beaten in the first round of racing in the Chicago
style racing & straight line racing.
In between the early afternoon racing & the evening racing, the
Monster Truck teams had to rush to get their trucks fixed, as they didn't
have much time to do it in. Some teams had more repair work to do
than others.
Kirk Dabney had the most repair work to do to his truck.
Crowds of onlookers watch the Overkill team fixing the truck.
